Susan and I enjoyed a wonderful weekend/New Year’s getaway in El Paso. We stayed in a lovely home we found on AirBnB.
We left around noon on Saturday, the 30th, after dropping a hamburger, fries, and milkshake off to Jim for his birthday. It was a beautiful sunny day and the drive was very pleasant. We arrived at the home a little after 5 pm. Then we found a grocery store to stock up on food for the evening and Sunday. We were kind of full from snacking so didn’t go out to dinner. We just went back to the home and watched some TV.
We slept in the next morning, then went for a drive around El Paso, hoping to find some free things to do like visit a park or historic buildings, but didn’t have much luck. El Paso is right on the border between the U.S. and Mexico. We could see some things across the border, including a giant “X” sculpture and writing on the side of a mountain.
After the drive, we walked around the neighborhood and laid in a hammock in the backyard of the house we were staying at. Then ate a simple dinner and watched a movie, staying up just past midnight to welcome the new year. We also enjoyed a little sparkling grape juice.
We left the next morning a little after 11 am, stopping at a Mexican restaurant – “Delicias Cafe” which was quite crowded and served delicious food, just as the name implies.
We arrived in Albuquerque at 4 pm and decided to stop at a movie theater and saw “The Last Jedi”, the most recent Star Wars movie. After that, we stopped at Dion’s for pizza before finally heading home.
It had been a very pleasant weekend and it was wonderful to have so much time to spend with my sweetie.
